Aktiv in die Zukunft (2014)
Aktiv in die Zukunft (2014)The exhibition «Aktiv in die Zukunft», a joint project of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSJ) shall convey a more positive perception of age. In 16 pictures athletes beyond the age of 70 show that they are far off being old. The senior athletes have been photographed by acclaimed photographer Karsten Thormaehlen, while practicing a variety of sports, from bowling, swimming, dancing, gymnastics to hiking. "With this exhibition, we want to make a contribution to positively strengthening the image of older members of society and to encourage visitors to their own sports and moving," said DOSB’s Vice President Walter Schneeloch, 67, who’s a passionate golfer himself. "It is never too late to practice. Sports and exercise in old age have positive effects. A good physical condition prevents illnesses and increases efficiency."Read more… | Watch trailer… | Order book…
Pioneers of the Future (2014)
Pioneers of the Future (2014)"Every second child born today has good chances to live longer than one hundred years. Centenarians are the fastest-growing age group in our society, and as a mirror of the full emotional experience of life, old age comes into focus. These faces are an outlook into our own future. The medical geriatric research finds – in addition to biological and immunological traces – in the centenarians some of the most interesting clues. Not only how to cure illnesses, but also what keeps people healthy until old age. (…). In Sardinia, photographer Karsten Thormaehlen met goatherds, winegrowers, civil servants, poets and, in particular, the oldest family in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records: Melis' nine surviving siblings – the youngest 79, the oldest 105 – have more than 820 years of life experience." —Prof. Dr. Roger Nitsch. In 2014 the project became a permanent exhibition at the University of Zurich’s (UZH) Institute of Regenerative Medicine (IREM) and was honored at the A’Design Award and Competition 2018, Como.Read more… | Watch film… | Order book…
